Update on Projects
3.1 Trail Mapping Project
Sandy will be meeting with Rodolphe and his student Krista next week and getting training on the GPS. The project is proceeding very well and Sandy has already developed a good format for the loop trails.
3.2 Rock Garden Project
It has been decided that planting would be delayed till next year to allow time to better observe the existing vegetation and prepare an effective plan of what we want to do in the area. Photos of the area are being taken on a weekly basis.
3.3 Trail from HTES to the Gully
The Green Team will be helping build the wheelchair accessible trail down to the Gully. We have the construction plan but it is taking longer than expected to raise all the funds needed and hire the contractor recommended by the planner. In the meantime, the Green Team is being kept extremely busy.

2007 Property
Beautification Awards
Work on this year’s Property Beautification
Awards is proceeding well and judging is under way. The awards ceremony will
take place on Tuesday, August 28 in the Council Chambers.

New Business
5.1 Correspondence
Shirley tabled a letter from Kevin Bolger,
Secretary of SAM, asking for our help in helping reduce the use of plastic bags
in our community. The TETC has already
taken small steps in this regard through its cloth grocery bag program. Some bags are left and we will put them up
for sale at the upcoming open air farmers’ market.

5.2 Pesticides
Use
This issue is again regularly surfacing in the media and has been a frequent item on TETC agenda. TETC would like to see at least a voluntary ban on the cosmetic use of pesticides and has recommended as much to Council in the past. A request to residents to stop the cosmetic use of pesticides would have to come from Council. For our part, we can make residents better aware of the dangers of pesticides through our newsletters, as we have done in the past, and issue specific warnings concerning the use of pesticides near bodies of water, including wells on private property.
5.3 SAM
Meeting, September
A notice of the upcoming SAM meeting in Labrador City has been received. TETC had recommended last year that the town include in their budget the funds needed for the town to have representation at the meeting. Torbay has not been represented at 3 of the last 4 SAM meetings. Madeleine will check the exact dates of the Labrador City meeting and consult with Ralph and Dawn.

Discussion on TETC
Mandate/Activities & Upcoming Elections
Due to the small number of committee
members present, this item was deferred once again, to the next meeting. Members are reminded that the current executive
is resigning as of the end of September and an election of a new executive must
take place.
1. Date of Next Meeting and Adjournment
The next
meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 26 at 7:30pm.
