1. Introductions and Review of Agenda
Agenda approved. Rodolphe
was introduced to the group.
1. Review and Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting (June 28, 2006)
The minutes were
approved with the following updates:
(i) Stewardship
sign: the new stewardship sign has been put up at the entrance to the town.
We are not sure when the other sign will be installed at the north end of town.
(ii) Newsletter:
Ross will provide an article for the next newsletter.
1. Trail Mapping Project - Presentation of New Maps
Madeleine tabled
the new maps and the project report. The map is available in three formats:
3'x4', 11"x17", and six 81/2"x11" individual trail
maps. The last two will be circulated to
members in PDF format and will be posted on our web site. Copies of these will
also be made for all the volunteers who helped out this summer. We have received two copies of the large map
and will be getting three more copies made for the town and TETC. People are encouraged to copy the maps from
the web, use them and give us their feedback and comments on any
changes/additions/corrections that are needed. We also welcome any information
residents might have on traditional/historical names and data, eg Dead Calf
Ridge.
Over the next
year, there are a number of issues that will need to be addressed and resolved:
ie trails on private property, the impact of the Torbay bypass road,
replacement of trails that are destroyed by development, incorporation of the
trail system into the town’s municipal plan, etc. Madeleine will check with
Brian Winter regarding the status of the right-of-way for the Jones Pond Trail
at Marine Drive.
To launch the new
maps, it was decided we would hold a hike around Torbay on September 16
beginning at the beach. This will be an occasion to check trail duration and
take photographs which can be featured on the final map. One idea was to hold a lunch at the Camp
Carey clubhouse at the ballfield during the hike.
1. New EcoAction Project: Community-Based Waste Reduction and Naturalization
The new EcoAction
project will begin in early September. Cathy Parsons has been hired as
- 2 -
coordinator and
will report for work on September 11.
The success of this project depends in large part on the participation
of volunteers and all residents are urged to get involved. A steering committee will be formed to
oversee the project. Madeleine will send a summary of the project activities
around so people have some idea what is expected.
